When you become a parent your priorities change. It's all about the kids, kids, kids...and it should be. But when you do that, you shouldn't forget about yourself. Because if you don't take care of yourself, how can you take care of them.
Now I think taking care of yourself includes not only eating right and exercising and making sure your around for the long run. But also taking the time to do things for yourself.
I struggle with not only that but also making sure that I have quality time with my kids. This because very evident tonight when I told Ryan it was time to get in bed and read. This is a new school time routine that we are implementing. In bed at 8 and read till 830, then bed.
He asked me to come and listen to him read. Normally, I would have said 'no, just read to yourself, and then go to bed'. But tonight for some reason I climbed up in bed and listened to him read 2 chapters of Ready Freddy Shark Tooth Tale.
It was the best time I had all day. And I had a great day before then. He is such a good reader. Warning: slight bragging about to happen. He reads at a 4.2-6.2 level and that was at his last assessment in 1st grade. Yeah, I'm a proud mom. End bragging.
Kevin was in there listening to him also. It was a nice bonding time and I could tell Ryan really enjoyed it. I tend to brush him off sometimes because he can do so much on his own. But I realize now that I need to take the time, make the time to do things with him.
Now comes time to figure out the balance of everything. Ryan, Emma, Kevin, cleaning, cooking, hopefully opening a shop, time for myself. I think with school being back in and Emma back in daycare (preschool next month!!) it will be a little easier to have a schedule.
Since today was the first day of school for both the kids I put chores on hold and did a few things for myself. Spent a little over an hour at Starbucks working on a little blog stuff while having a iced white chocolate mocha and a raspberry scone. Then had lunch with a good friend at my favorite bagel place. If you follow me on Instagram you'll know the place. Then ran a few errands. Michaels, Walmart and Freds. Yes, a couple were for some groceries but I bought a few things for myself too.
Well, I think that's it for now. My first 'from the ♥' post...feels good. Now to get a good schedule going. I'm sure you'll see more posts about that in the near future!
Oh and one more thing. Here is a pic of my 2 little loves.....and a huge priority in my life!
